If you need to access medical or mental healthcare while on campus, please use the following resources.
For non-emergency care and general wellness, enrolled McNeese students can use medical services at the Student Health Center on the corner of Ryan and W. Sale Street and can use mental health services at the McNeese Counseling Center.
If you need care outside of these centers’ hours, care can be obtained at local hospitals or urgent care centers. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the closest urgent care center or hospital.
In case of a medical or mental health emergency, go to the nearest hospital emergency room, or dial 9-1-1 on a phone. When you dial 9-1-1, a team will be dispatched to come and assist you.
McNeese State University will enroll our students on F1 visas in health insurance through the organization ISO. The cost of the health insurance will be included in your fee bill; the charge varies slightly each semester but usually amounts to $200 to $300. Because this insurance is very basic, many students purchase supplemental health insurance independently.
Mental wellness is just as important as physical wellness. We want all McNeese students to know about the resources available on campus to support your mental health.
As a student at McNeese, you are eligible for assistance at the McNeese Counseling Center for no additional charge. Costs are already covered by general fees that all students pay. (If you have already graduated, you can access the Kay Doré Clinic.)
Please be advised that services at our counseling centers / clinics are completely confidential. No one else on campus will have access to your consultations there.
If you feel like you are struggling, know that you are not alone. Pursuing educational and career goals, living away from home, and/or planning for the future are all challenges, and it is common for these challenges to cause stress or other symptoms. Please don’t hesitate to contact our counseling team for support and wellness strategies as you navigate challenging times.
