International Student Services: Banking

Opening a US Bank Account

If you are interested in opening a US bank account, you can take the following steps:

  • Step 1: Establish a mailing address.

  • If you live off campus, your mailing address will be the physical address of your house or apartment.

  • Step 2: Find a bank.

  • Several large, national banks have locations close to our campus. Research banks in the area to find the option that is best for you, and be sure that you call ahead to make sure you are going to the correct location.

  • Many of our students bank through Chase Bank. If you are interested in opening an account at Chase Bank, our local representative is Tiffany Bailey-Duhon, who can be reached at tiffany.bailey-duhon@chase.com or 1-337-494-4228.

  • Step 3: Make an appointment.

  • You will need to call ahead to schedule a time to meet with a bank representative.

  • Step 4: Gather the necessary documentation.

  • The bank will need to see your Form I-20 and your passport.

  • Please note that your I-20 counts as an alternative form of ID. If the bank asks you to bring two forms of ID, your I-20 and passport should meet the requirements.
