International Student Services: Banking

If you are interested in opening a US bank account, you can take the following steps:  

• Step 1: Establish a mailing address.  

• If you live off campus, your mailing address will be the physical address of your house or apartment.  

• If you live on campus, you will need to open a Post Office box number at the University Post Office.  

• Step 2: Find a bank.  

• Some bank locations that were originally located within close proximity to the campus are currently under construction. Be sure that you call ahead to make sure you are going to the correct location. 

• Step 3: Make an appointment.  

• You will need to call ahead to schedule a time to meet with a bank representative.  

• Step 4: Gather the necessary documentation.  

• The bank will need to see your Form I-20 and your passport.  

• Please note that your I-20 counts as an alternative form of ID. If the bank asks you to bring two forms of ID, your I-20 and passport should meet the requirements.
