Write to Excellence Center: Book an Appointment

Open Monday–Thursday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Fridays: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

eTutoring Appointments

While face-to-face appointments are more effective, we also offer eTutoring appointments, which are asynchronous, so you do not need to be available for the appointment's scheduled time and date. If WTEC appointments are an assignment be sure to ask your professor if eTutoring counts, or if you have to meet face-to-face to receive credit.

Students are required to submit the following when scheduling an eTutoring appointment:

  1. Explanation of what you need assistance with
  2. Instructor’s rubric, grading guide, and/or prompt
  3. Your assignment AS A WORD DOCUMENT (any other type of document can cause a delay in feedback)

Students are advised that tutors who review work electronically do not make corrections or revisions; they will leave comments and recommendations.

Document turn-around is generally within 2 business days. Students are advised that electronic tutoring is done during writing center hours. Submissions should be made with these time constraints in mind.  Papers submitted after 11:30 p.m. on Friday will not be reviewed until Monday at the earliest.

The student will receive an e-mail when the tutor has uploaded their comments. To find them, open the appointment and look for a newly attached document from the tutor.

Lit Lab

Lit Lab is for students looking for assistance with assessing and analyzing literature. The purpose of Lit Lab is to help students understand any reading materials that have been assigned by their professor. Lit Lab appointments can only be in-person, and students will need to provide the reading materials for the appointment either by uploading and attaching the document(s) to the appointment or by bringing them in-person.

WTEC Don'ts

We do not take multiple appointments from the same student regarding the same assignment at the same time. This means if a student schedules multiple appointments with multiple tutors for the same assignment, without making any changes to their assignment in-between the appointments, the duplicate appointments will be cancelled and only the earliest one will remain scheduled. Assignments must be edited before scheduling another appointment. Students are encouraged to schedule follow-up appointments after making revisions for more in-depth feedback on written work.

Do not submit your assignment as a PDF or any other type of document if scheduling an eTutoring appointment. Only Microsoft Word Documents are acceptable because they provide the easiest and most assured way for a tutor to leave comments. If any other document type is submitted, we will reach out to you to have you resubmit your assignment correctly. This can lead to a delay in feedback and possibly an appointment cancelation if the assignment is not received in the correct form within the 48 business hours granted to eTutoring appointments.
