Public Services: Circulation

Circulation

Public Services Department checks out material for most of the library's collection.  A current McNeese ID card serves as the library card for McNeese students, faculty, and staff.

The general public may join the Friends of the Library Program for a $15.00 annual fee.  Membership forms are available at the Public Service Desk.

Loan Periods are as follows:

Faculty / Staff: end of the semester

         Students: 3 weeks

Friends of the Library: 3 weeks

For further information, phone 337-475-5725.

Renewals

Faculty and staff may renew materials twice, for a total of 2 semesters.

Students may renew materials up to three times.

Reserve materials and items on hold for someone else cannot be renewed.

Renewals can be done online by going to My Account option on the library's homepage (under the column entitled "Services").

Bills and Overdues

Overdue notices are sent out at 1 week and 2 weeks.

Bill notices are sent out at 4 weeks.  The charge of the bill is determined by a flat $75 replacement fee and a processing fee of $25 per item.

There are additional penalties for people with library bills:

  1. Students with bills cannot register for classes.
  2. Students and graduates with bills cannot receive transcripts.
  3. Patrons with bills cannot check out other items or renew items.
  4. Patrons with bills cannot use library databases off-campus.
  5. Bills may be referred to a collection agency.

Billed items that are returned within six months of the due date will be credited to the student's account.  Library patrons returning items after six months of the due date, and may request a refund.

Reserves

Faculty and staff may place items on reserve at the Public Services Desk.  An item on reserve can circulate between 1 hour and 2 days, depending upon the wishes of the person placing the item on reserve.  Items placed on reserve may be restricted to library use only.  Reserve items may not be renewed.

Holds and Recalls

Hold and recall requests may be placed on items currently on loan to another patron.  Hold and recall requests may be placed in writing at the Public Services Desk.

For a hold, once the requested item is returned, the requestor will be called, letting him or her know the item is now available.  Hold items will be held for 10 days.  For a recall, the customer who currently has the item will be called, asking that it be returned before the original due date.  Recalled items will then be held for 10 days and the requestor called stating that the item is now available.

Hold or recall requests cannot be processed if the requesting patron has a block on his or her library record or is not currently enrolled / active.

LOUIS Borrowing Cards

LOUIS Borrowing Cards (formerly LALINC cards) allow library users to visit other libraries in Louisiana and check out materials from those institutions.

In order to obtain a LOUIS Borrowing Card, McNeese students, faculty, and staff will need to fill out an application available from the Library Director's Office.  Please call (337) 475-5716 to make sure there is someone available to complete the process.  You must have your McNeese ID with you at the time of the application.

Visitors with LOUIS Borrowing Cards need to bring their card, their student ID, and a driver's license to the Public Services Department at McNeese.  We will then enter you into the system as a new user.  The loan period is three weeks.

By participating in the LOUIS Borrowing Card Program, a user agrees to abide by the lending policies of participating universities and is responsible for the materials borrowed.  If lending policies are habitually violated, circulation privileges could be revoked.  If you have any questions, please contact the Public Services Department at (337) 475-5725.
