Citation Style Guides: Technical Reports

General Form

Technical Reports are typically published by government agencies and other research agencies.  When citing these reports it is necessary to determine who conducted the research (performer), who funded the research (sponsor), and who published the research (publisher).  Sometimes the same agency is responsible for all three actions.

Author(s). Title of report. Edition. Place of publication: publisher;

date. Extent. Report number.: Notes.

  • The performer is listed as the author.
  • Sponsors are listed in the Notes field.

Written and published by the sponsoring organization Sec. 29.3.7.4:

Feller BA. Health characteristics of persons with chronic activity

  • Whenever citing a government agency, you will need to identify the country of origin.  See Government Information, CSE guide, for more information.

  • Without a sponsor listed in the Notes field, it is assumed the author/ performer funded the research.
