This course will provide a general knowledge base concerning the emotional, social, physical, and spiritual impact of addiction upon the abuser and the family system. Special emphasis will be given to the principles of the progression of addiction, treatment modalities, and recovery and relapse prevention.
No duplicate credit for PSYC 555.
Prerequisite: Admission to the school counseling program, with level I courses completed; COUN 631.

Students will have to complete website summaries from the following sites:
Health and Parenting
Students will be required to summarize journal articles related to peer pressure and substance abuse.
Students will be required to complete assignments on the signs and symptoms of substance abuse.
Students will be required to attend 10 hours of AA, NA, AL-ANON, or Celebrate Recovery group.
